The purpose of the Garden Club is to stimulate interest in gardening, preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Village of Gates Mills, and promote charitable, educational and scientific endeavors related to gardening.
Greetings from our President... Kelly Siemborski
Happy New Year to all!
It is an honor to be leading this organization of brilliant and talented women and men. Our work behind the scenes for 2017 has already begun. This year’s theme is, "To Give and Grow”. Giving can be in many forms such as the gift of your time in the cottage gardens, helping with a committee, sharing a special talent or a making a financial gift. Growing can take place in the dirt, as well as in reaching out to the community at large, advancing our online experience, and archiving our club’s history.
The Garden Club will be growing in our efforts to involve youth. This year we will be advising the 5th grade class at Gates Mills Elementary with its vegetable garden and a community program on the Conservation of Frogs.
We are growing our fundraising with our Vintage Boutique and Plant Sale chaired by Molly Laks and Gwen Morgan. The event is open to the public and will be held at The Barn on May 27th. It will feature gently used garden planters, vases and tools, along with plants from our members’ gardens. Mark your calendars today!
This is the year for our magnificent Garden Tour, Through the Garden Gate 2017, on June 23rd and 24th! Four gardens have been secured already! Many thanks to our Chairs, Ann Hunter and Janet AuWerter. Also, huge kudos to Marion Faubel for securing our lead underwriter this year. Pre-sale tickets for the Garden Tour can be purchased in the spring on our new website.
Our new website chairs, Karen Hostoffer and Lisa Alexander have been enhancing our existing website and turning it into a creative and friendly tool. The site will be used by our members, as well as, other garden clubs and communities to share the talents of our membership.
Additionally, we will be installing new plaques on specific trees on our property to memorialize our deceased members, creating displays for our national and state awards, and adding new plants to our cottage gardens.
As I look forward to the next two years, I'm filled with excitement! If you haven't been active in the recent past and would like to be active this year, even in a small way, please feel free to contact me. I would love to hear from you.
Stay warm! May you find joy in gardening, Kelly
